  • 110 deaths.
  • 650 injuries.
  • $564,600,000 in dollar loss.

Overall trends

Overall trends for residential building heating fires and losses for the 10-year period of 2013 to 2022 show the following:

  • A 34% decrease in fires.
  • A 39% decrease in deaths.
    In 2014, there were 11 reported multifatality heating fires that contributed to the spike in fire deaths.
  • A 14% decrease in injuries.
  • A 27% decrease in dollar loss*.
*This overall constant dollar-loss trend takes inflation into account by adjusting each year's dollar loss to its equivalent 2022 value.
