U.S. Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell Remarks: Jan. 10, 2022

Remarks from U.S. Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell on the fatal Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Bronx, New York fires.

Remarks

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) expresses our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by both the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and The Bronx, New York fires. While the investigations are ongoing, these fires remind us how quickly the loss of life can occur from fire.

This problem is complex and will require an all-hands approach to a solution. We are committed to America's fire service and reducing the loss of life from fire in the United States.

These recent tragedies are a sad reminder that we must invigorate and continue our efforts in community risk reduction, prevention and fire safety education, automatic alerts and suppression devices, and enforcement of codes and standards. The USFA, along with our national fire organization partners, will lead this effort.
